This energy efficient design was the first project of my time at the University of Wyoming. It was a program the professor was working on in his practice at the time and prompted us using the client strict requests and needs to pose possible design solutions for such. I often think back on this outline when problem solving my current clients’ program needs.
The Jackson Hole area in Wyoming faces the of challenge small lots and large price tags. In turn, the design must work vertically. The home poses a climbing rock wall on the interior for the active lifestyle of the clients, doubling as a thermal mass for reduced heating costs. The exterior decks allow for views of the Teton Mountain Range and an expansion on the occupiable square footage without compromising the lot size. Additional energy efficiency aspects include a large ratio of windows on the southern facade. Solar panels on the southern facing roof pitch also bring in proposed elements of a sustainable building.
